“The 2018 Amuse Bouche is a Right Bank-inspired blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with the Franc very much in evidence in the wine’s aromatic profile. Bright red berry fruit, cedar, tobacco, mint, dried flowers and a kiss of sweet French oak give the 2018 its racy, extroverted personality. The 2018 needs a bit of time to be at its very best. Drink: 2022-2036. Jan/2021 —Antonio Galloni

The 2018 AMUSE BOUCHE Proprietary Red Wine is not only an exceptional blend but also a work of art. For its label, the renowned New Orleans artist James Michalopolous was commissioned to create a culinary-inspired piece titled “Fish Swish.” Born in Pennsylvania in 1951, James was drawn to the vibrant culture of New Orleans in 1981, seeking the bohemian spirit of the hippie movement in America.

As an artist, James began sketching the city’s artists, musicians, houses, and street corners. What fascinated him was the juxtaposition of beauty and decay that he found in New Orleans’ architecture. He made it his muse, capturing the spirit and essence of the city in his art through thick layers of impasto paint. His vibrant portraits of shotgun houses and Creole cottages became iconic representations of the Big Easy, brimming with color and energy.

James Michalopolous’ body of work, infused with his unique style, came to symbolize the gritty, vibrant, and alluring image of New Orleans for the world. His art established him as the most influential living artist in the region, leaving an indelible mark on the city’s artistic landscape.

By featuring James Michalopolous’ “Fish Swish” on the label of the 2018 AMUSE BOUCHE Red Wine, the creators pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of New Orleans and the captivating allure of the culinary world. The label itself becomes a piece of art, blending the realms of wine and visual creativity into a singular experience for wine enthusiasts. With every sip of this exquisite blend, one can appreciate not only the craftsmanship in the bottle but also the artistic spirit that inspired it.
