Deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts from the glass with bombastic scents of ripe black plums, boysenberries and Black Forest cake with hints of Morello cherries, star anise, cardamom and red roses, plus a touch of garrigue. The medium to full-bodied palate is an exercise in poise, delivering loads of vibrant black fruit and exotic spice flavors with bold freshness plus exquisitely ripe, rounded tannins, finishing with fantastic length and perfume. For its label, the renowned New Orleans artist James Michalopolous was commissioned to create a culinary-inspired piece titled “Fish Swish.” Born in Pennsylvania in 1951, James was drawn to the vibrant culture of New Orleans in 1981, seeking the bohemian spirit of the hippie movement in America.
As an artist, James began sketching the city’s artists, musicians, houses, and street corners. What fascinated him was the juxtaposition of beauty and decay that he found in New Orleans’ architecture. He made it his muse, capturing the spirit and essence of the city in his art through thick layers of impasto paint. His vibrant portraits of shotgun houses and Creole cottages became iconic representations of the Big Easy, brimming with color and energy.
