David Ramey, who is one of the veterans of high-quality winemaking on California’s North Coast, worked in France and at some of the top Napa wineries (Rudd and Dominus) before settling in Healdsburg in Sonoma Valley. He continues to make Chardonnay in a Burgundian style with full malolactic fermentation, and now produces four single-vineyard Chardonnays as well as two generic efforts from the Russian River and Sonoma Coast.

David Ramey, a luminary in the world of winemaking, has left an indelible mark on the California wine scene, particularly in Napa Valley. His journey began in the 1970s when he studied enology at the University of California, Davis. Early in his career, Ramey worked at esteemed wineries such as Château Pétrus in Bordeaux and Simi Winery in Sonoma, where he honed his craft and developed a profound appreciation for the art of winemaking.

In 1996, David Ramey and his wife Carla founded Ramey Wine Cellars with the vision of producing wines that reflected the unique terroir of California’s top vineyards. The winery quickly gained recognition for its commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and an unwavering passion for showcasing the true character of the grapes.

Ramey’s commitment to traditional winemaking techniques is complemented by a progressive approach, blending the best of both worlds. The use of indigenous yeasts, extended lees aging, and judicious oak barrel selection are just a few hallmarks of Ramey wines. This meticulous craftsmanship results in wines that are not only expressive of their origin but also age-worthy, evolving gracefully over time.

Today, Ramey Wine Cellars stands as a testament to David Ramey’s dedication to producing wines of exceptional quality.
