The brilliant 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is a tiny blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. Medium to full-bodied, it possesses notes of graphite, vanilla, blackcurrants and melted asphalt. Drink now-2025. Dec/2014 —Robert M. Parker, Jr. | robertparker.com

David Ramey, who is one of the veterans of high-quality winemaking on California’s North Coast, worked in France and at some of the top Napa wineries (Rudd and Dominus) before settling in Healdsburg in Sonoma Valley. He continues to make Chardonnay in a Burgundian style with full malolactic fermentation, and now produces four single-vineyard Chardonnays as well as two generic efforts from the Russian River and Sonoma Coast.

Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot round out the experience of this predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine. It presents a lovely expression of the Napa Valley in its spicy clove, cinnamon and cassis. Oak and tannin build up toward the finish, finding equilibrium in the wine’s balance of acidity and lush, dark fruit. Jul/2015 —Virginie Boone | wineenthusiast.con

David Ramey, a luminary in the world of winemaking, has left an indelible mark on the California wine scene, particularly in Napa Valley. His journey began in the 1970s when he studied enology at the University of California, Davis. Early in his career, Ramey worked at esteemed wineries such as Château Pétrus in Bordeaux and Simi Winery in Sonoma, where he honed his craft and developed a profound appreciation for the art of winemaking.

In 1996, David Ramey and his wife Carla founded Ramey Wine Cellars with the vision of producing wines that reflected the unique terroir of California’s top vineyards. The winery quickly gained recognition for its commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and an unwavering passion for showcasing the true character of the grapes.

Ramey’s winemaking philosophy revolves around the belief that great wines are made in the vineyard. This ethos is evident in the meticulous vineyard sourcing and management undertaken by Ramey Wine Cellars. The winery has forged strong relationships with growers across Napa Valley and Sonoma County, allowing them to select grapes from exceptional vineyards, each contributing its distinct characteristics to the final wines.

A notable milestone in Ramey’s career came in 2002 when he acquired a winery facility in Healdsburg, Sonoma County. This acquisition provided Ramey Wine Cellars with a dedicated space for winemaking, barrel aging, and the pursuit of excellence. The winery continued to expand its portfolio, emphasizing varietals like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, showcasing the diverse microclimates of California.

Ramey’s commitment to traditional winemaking techniques is complemented by a progressive approach, blending the best of both worlds. The use of indigenous yeasts, extended lees aging, and judicious oak barrel selection are just a few hallmarks of Ramey wines. This meticulous craftsmanship results in wines that are not only expressive of their origin but also age-worthy, evolving gracefully over time.

Today, Ramey Wine Cellars stands as a testament to David Ramey’s dedication to producing wines of exceptional quality. The winery’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility further underscores its role as a leader in California’s wine industry. With a legacy built on passion, expertise, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence, David Ramey and Ramey Wine Cellars continue to shape the narrative of fine winemaking in California.
