Winery Notes: Rich in Hue, this wine's nose is infused with discreet hints of oak and the tannins are well structured and striking at the initial attack. But these rather imposing tannins are actually both mellow and firm. Fine and softly granular, they give an elegant palate-coating mouth feel. The beautiful and expressive nose in dominated by blackberry and red fruit flavors. At the finish, the very characteristic Haut-Brion tannins again come to fore, equally firm and silky.

The black cherry, plum, and mineral-scented 1999 Bahans Haut Brion was somewhat closed aromatically when I tasted it. The wine has medium body, excellent purity, good texture, and firm tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015. Apr/2002 ~ Robert Parker, Wine Advocate [88 Points]

Moderately saturated medium red. Roasted plum and raspberry, smoky oak, hot stones and tobacco on the nose. Sweet and vinous, with plenty of personality and structure. Firmly tannic finish features good cut and length. This is excellent for the vintage. Jun/2002 ~ Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar [88 Points]
