Winery Notes: This tenth vintage of Uriah is one of the best expressions of our unique Spring Valley terroir. The nose is extremely refined and complex with scents of bright currant, clove, licorice, wheat, cigar box, almond paste, and orange extract. The palate is rich with bright acid and ripe cherry flavors, and polished tannins linger on a very long finish rich with notes of roasted coffee.

This has density without excess weight, showing a real depth to its cherry, cinnamon, almond and cedar flavors, lingering against crisp tannins. Impressive for its deft balance and the way the finish sneaks up on you. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Best from 2013 through 2016. 2,200 cases made. –HS

The 2008 Uriah Red Wine is a blend of 53% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc with the balance Petit Verdot and Malbec aged for 18 months in 60% new French oak. Aromas of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, herbs, cassis, and black currant lead to a firm, elegant, balanced wine in need of greater depth. Drink it through 2020. Spring Valley Vineyard produces wine from 100% estate-grown fruit, a relative rarity in Washington. The winery is owned by Ste. Michelle Wine Estates but the Derby family from whom they purchased the brand continues to own the vineyards.

(53% merlot, 36% cabernet franc, 8% petit verdot and 3% malbec): Full, deep red. Claret-like aromas and flavors of redcurrant, cedar, tobacco, licorice and mint, lifted by spice and orange zest high notes. Juicy and bright, with a streak of acidity giving the wine a penetrating quality. A tad tart but I like the wine's high pitch and minty verve. Finishes with firm, fine tannins and moderate length.
